In this parable we see a cool picture of the heart of God for his people. In this wedding feast all of the hard work was done, the oxen and the fattened calves were already slaughtered, the invitation to come to the feast was free. The shocking response to the kings invitation leads the king to open the invitation to everyone else. The ones that were initially invited were not worthy, Pastor Jeff highlighted that our worthiness lies in our response. We can only receive and accept the invitation. The wedding garments, Pastor Jeff mentioned that historically the host would typically give the guests a robe upon entry to the banquet. We see here in the parable that the king saw a man who had no wedding garments at the feast, the man was bound hand and feet and thrown out into outer darkness. This is a picture of coming into the presence of God bringing our own righteousness. It was never about what we have done but all that had been done for us through the work of Jesus on the cross. All the hard work has already been done, let us lay our pride down and humbly receive.
